Gij, die eens neerkwam hier op aard is een vrije bewerking door een onbekende van Jesus, Thou joy of loving hearts , een lied dat Ray Palmer (1858) baseerde op Bernard van Claurvaux' Jesu, dolcedo cordium (omstreeks 1160) . Een hiervoor minder gebruikelijke melodie van Frederick Charles Maker wordt gebruikt
