Het lied verscheen in 1739 zoals boven in John Wesley & Charles Wesley, Hymns and Sacred Poems, London: Printed by William Strahan; and sold by James Hutton […], MCDDXXXIX (1739), p. 206-208. De huidige beginregel dateert van de uitgave van George Whitefield (1740-1770) in zijn A Collection of Hymns for Social Worship, London, 1753, p. 24-25.
